HDMI provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable. Sony introduced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) in home entertainment products in the late 1980s. When a receiver or amplifier is equipped with DSP, the analog output signal from the Pro Logic decoder passes through an A/D converter where delay and reverberation are added. Effects are controlled in the digital domain, the signal is reconverted into analog by a D/A converter. Equalisation (tone control) is then performed in the analog domain.
